Okay, I admit I know absolutely nothing about football. My husband typically watches one game a year, the Super Bowl, and I watch the commercials. But fortunately you don't have to know anything about football to replicate a logo in icing! This was a surprise cake from a sweet bride for a groom who's an FSU fan. Chocolate cake with peanut butter icing...I'll pretend to like football if it involves peanut butter and chocolate. :)

Apples for the Teachers
My Spice goes to a school for children with autism and other special needs. The "teachers" are actually all behavior analysts who love these kids so much. They really appreciate how long it takes my Spice, and the other students, to reach a goal, and how those goals have to be broken down in to dozens of tiny steps. So a plain old apple to say thank you just doesn't suffice. Today we sent in apple cake pops, made with strawberry flavored cake. I'm so glad I made extras to "taste test." ;)

Little Pumpkins
This year instead of doing cupcakes for my Spice's school Halloween party, I changed things up a bit and decided to do pumpkin cake pops! Plan A was for them to be jack-o-lanterns with black eyes and mouths, but the Wilton Food Writer pens just don't seem to agree with the candy melts...they just carve instead of write. So on to Plan B, plain old fat pumpkins!
With the orange flavored cake and the white chocolate coating, they tasted like delicious orange creamsicles. Needless to say, all the extras were eaten within hours by myself and Mr. Sugar & Spice. =)

Beautiful Wedding for a Beautiful Girl
What a busy weekend! My niece married her high school sweetheart in a sunset ceremony on Lake Monroe on 9/10/11. I was a bridesmaid and my Sugar was the flower girl. I also threw the bridal shower and helped her plan the wedding, so I'm not sure what I was thinking when I volunteered to also do the cake! But I was happy to do it for her (and save her the expense). However, I will admit this was the most pressure I've ever put on myself when doing a cake! I couldn't quite get it perfect enough...it's the biggest day in my pseudo-little sister's life after all!!
There were about 80 wedding guests and she wanted to keep the top tier for their one year anniversary, so I did a three-tiered cake to ensure there would be enough servings. The wedding colors were black, white, and red with a damask print on the invitations and various other wedding keepsakes. The bride is not a fan of fondant, so I used only vanilla buttercream icing with a red satin ribbon border. And the cake flavor she picked was...Funfetti!! She said "Plain white cake is so boring." Love it! Congratulations baby girl!! ♥

Barbie is Timeless!
My niece turned 6 today (has it really been a year since her Fancy Nancy cake?) and this year's party theme was Barbie. My sister said, "She picked Barbie for the theme. Can you do anything with that one?" Oh yeah, I can!! :)
I've been waiting for years to do a Barbie doll cake so I knew right away what I was going to make for her! When I was a teenager, my best friend's mom did cakes and the Barbie cakes were my favorite. I'd never seen anything like them before, and I was so thrilled to be able to surprise my niece with this special cake! Barbie's dress is cake covered in buttercream with candy pearl accents. And cupcakes to match of course!
Everything was done with strawberry cake (so yummy--and pink!) and vanilla buttercream icing. Everyone seemed to enjoy the cake, and it was refreshing to see that in this day and age (I sound so old), Barbie is still a favorite with little girls! And as a side note, I'm so glad she picked this one instead of Wizards of Waverly Place! :)

Blackjack Birthday
I've never been to Vegas, but I feel lucky and ready to gamble after making this cake! My future nephew-in-law (is that a thing?) is celebrating his 21st birthday with a casino themed party. I loved the idea, and I think I was more excited about making a casino cake than he was. =) All of the poker chips, playing cards, and dice are made from fondant. And the cake is Devil's Food cake...yum!

Happy Birthday to My Sugar!!
I can't believe my little Sugar is two years old already. It just goes too fast! I had a hard time deciding which theme to do for her birthday party, because she loves so many...Blue's Clues, Backyardigans, Elmo, and her newest favorite, Bubble Guppies. But every night for the last 10 months, she's snuggled up with her binkies (one in her mouth and one in her hand) and her little Pablo. So Backyardigans it is!

Toy Story Party!

Happy Birthday to My Spice!!
I cannot believe my "Baby Spice" is 7 years old!! Time goes much too fast when you have children. I refused to do a Mickey Mouse party three years in a row! =) So this year we went with a Toy Story theme, since one of Emily's favorite toys is a Woody doll. There's no Woody cake pan, only Buzz Lightyear, and that just wouldn't do for my girl. So Mommy just had to freehand it! Some too cute Alien cupcakes and the party was complete! Happy Birthday Boo!

For My Favorite Cheesehead
My brother-in-law is from Wisconsin, and his brothers are still there. I knew he'd be excited that the Green Bay Packers made it to the Super Bowl this year, so I just had to surprise him with a cake! His favorite, yellow cake with chocolate icing. Now he'll be happy even if they don't win. Maybe. =)
UPDATE: Looks like it was lucky cake! The text I received as the confetti was raining down on the Green Bay Packers..."You are the best Sissy ever!!! Go Pack!!" You're welcome, Wisconsin. =)
